Yea, I hated cataclysm. I never raided again after that expansion. Now, I just solo it, LFR and do the timewalking stuff.

Normal mode dungeons in cata were like heroics in wrath. Gone in cata was facerolling the heroic dungeons.

If you look beyond the atmosphere and story, WotLK itself is kind of a retail lite in many respects, and I'd argue Cataclysm just continues that, with a worse story, worse atmosphere, and a world revamp that you can still experience on retail, making you wonder what the point of a Cataclysm Classic even is. As someone who played WotLK, Cataclysm, MoP, WoD, and Legion extensively, Cataclysm holds about as much appeal as WoD for me. Of course you can have fun - especially if you didn't play Cataclysm, and especially during the first few weeks of the expansion, but beyond that, there's really nothing there. I'm sorry. MoP and Legion were both vastly superior if you want a more modern experience than Vanilla/TBC.

Cata is best at the begining... I guess only Dragon Soul was hated, early raids + firelands ... it all was just epic Thats why you should play private servers that are reseted every like year or two, so you can enjoy fresh stuff and raid progression, not the endgame metas

WotLK had already been retail-ified so it's not a surprise that you believe cata isn't "much different than wrath".

Well, this is basically what most people would think of Cata if they actually played it. I said this once and I'll say it again... For every 10 people who claimed hating on Cata, around 5 never actually played it, 2 did play it but had to quit because they got in college, got a wife, kids etc... And can't remember that's the reason and therefore they end up blaming on Cataclys, and the remaining 3 only played last patch of Cata which had a huge problem which was the fact that it lasted for an absurd amount of time and there was literally nothing to do for like 8 months or so and that was an actual reason to remember it as a bad expansion, but that's not even close to the full expansion experience. I am 100% certain that what I just said is very close to reality.

Mop was the last classic game, tho it was the first killer, of talents, then WoD on world, Legion on player control, Bfa on gameplay, Shadowlands on the collection of things and lore, DF is the new start, maybe.

Agreed. I was adamant that I wouldn’t play Cata. But I’m like you, never played it back in the day, so I’ve been enjoying leveling a couple characters up more than I thought I would.

Fel reavers had to have been glitched for a while in early TBC because I used to watch them zoom across the zone ridiculously fast, like someone using speed hack. And you’d see them on the other side of the zone, and one second later they’d zoom straight at you and gank you. It was brutal.

Omg even now, 19 years later, i feel PTSD from the Timberhold rep grind. I wanted the god damn summoning trinket. The annoying thing is it's must easier if you hold off on handing in the quest items and start at a lower level. And yes, i didnt know and never got my trinket. Btw, the pouch is a Bis lvl 19 twink item. You have to follow a high level player as a ghost while they rep grind.

There were a lot of elements in earlier WoW maps that were reserved for later. For example: Mount Hyjal, Uldum, The Maelstrom, and all the Cata regions were already on the Vanilla map, but just not accessible. It only became accessible in Cata (which leads me to believe that Cata was supposed to be the last canon expansion). All the newer areas - post Cata - were added later. I think that Blizz has had the entire storyline plotted out until Cataclysm. This is evident by looking at the map. With this, they knew that they would include flying mounts in the future and completed parts of the map that can only be accessed by flying, so that they have less work to do down the line.

In the Vashj'ir zone, on a landmass, on a tower, There is a murloc dressed up in 19th century British explorer attire(backpack, pith helmet and all). I like to think I cleared the zone on both Horde and Alliance and I don't remember having to interact with him.
